With events planned all around the main festival weekend there's plenty for everyone at this festival with a difference - but the centrepiece of Newport Rising is the Torchlit March and this year we march on the Saturday 2 November. Join us as we reclaim the streets and walk in the footsteps of the Chartists on the 184th anniversary of the Rising of 1839

What is Newport Rising?

Newport Rising is a festival to celebrate and remember the Chartist Uprising of 1839 (also known as the Newport Rising) which was the last large-scale armed rebellion against authority in Great Britain and an important milestone on the road to modern democracy.

The Chartists fought for the vote, for the right of the common people to have their voices heard. Join us this November and add your voice to the chorus.

Want to get involved?

Newport Rising is a non-profit, grass roots festival delivered by a small team and a lot of dedicated volunteers. Volunteers are essential to the festival and there are many different roles to fill each year. We need torch lighters, agitators, recruiters, standard-bearers and peace keepers to help us make Newport Rising 2022 the best it can be. Just like the Chartists, we believe that great things are possible when we act together and we're grateful to all of our volunteers past and present for making the festival possible.
