About the Event
2026 Chartist Legacy Lecture
The current politics of hate and division arguably pose the greatest threat to Britain’s democracy since the achievement of universal voting rights almost a century ago. Nick Lowles, chief executive of the anti-extremism campaign group Hope not hate has spent over 30 years actively opposing the spread of far-right ideologies that usurp healthy political discourse and set communities bitterly against each other. In the 2026 Chartist Legacy Lecture he’ll share some of his experiences from this struggle and set out ways individual communities can resist the encroachment of divisive philosophies and protect the values of tolerance and respect.
