About the Event

***THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED***

Event organisers have considered the forecast and decided that the consistently high levels of rain with the possibility of thunder represent an unacceptable level of risk and discomfort to walkers. All ticket holders will be refunded and given priority booking for a rescheduled guides walk in spring 2023

DO NOT ATTEND THE WALK OR ATTEMPT THE WALK WITHOUT GUIDANCE.

Leaders: Steve Drowley and Chris Millett      Grade: Moderate

PLEASE NOTE: Walkers are advised to wear walking boots, waterproofs and bring water and packed lunch. Meeting point is at Top House pub, Trefil. In case of very poor weather conditions, please check your emails on the morning before the walk for updates.

A guided walk to the Chartist Cave, also known by two Welsh names; Ogof Fawr (the ‘Big Cave’) and earlier as Tylles Fawr (the ‘Great Hole’). The more commonly used modern name “Chartist Cave” dates from 1839 when Chartist reformers used the cave to stockpile weapons in advance of their march on Newport on 4th November of that year. There is a plaque at the entrance to the cave commemorating the actions of the Chartists.

Welsh, French, German and English language speakers are welcomed.

The Top House is open for hot drinks and food. Marchers may choose to book a table for refreshments following the guided walk.
