Chartist Convention at The John Frost School

The annual Chartist Convention is a conference organised by Our Chartist Heritage at which academics present their research on Chartist-related history. This year the Convention starts with a performance featuring students from the John Frost School, and the morning session focuses on the centenary of women’s suffrage with three speakers each giving talks followed by a panel discussion which will include opportunity for audience questions. Dr. Elin Jones (OCH) will speak on pre-1900 women’s activism; Ryland Wallace (Coleg Gwent) will talk about the women’s suffrage campaign; and Dr. Rachel Locke-Lewis (USW) will discuss the aftermath of 1918.

During the afternoon Stuart Butler and the Stroud history group will give a performance on Chartist pubs in Gwent. Matthew Roberts will talk on the material and visual culture of Chartism and Brian Davies will talk on Dr William Price. The…
