About the Event

Wednesday, 15 May  17.30   Steve Maguire: Searching for Zephaniah Williams in Tasmania

July 4th 1840, Williams along with John Frost and William Jones arrived at Port Arthur Penitentiary, sentenced to life transportation, for leading the Rising of 1839.  Sixteen years of petitioning and campaigning by the Chartist movement resulted in all three of the 'Welsh Martyrs' receiving pardons. With his own photographs, Steve reveals the evidence he has found in north Tasmania, concerning Zephaniah and his family, who joined him there in his years of freedom.

Dydd Mercher, 15 Mai 17:30 Steve Maguire: Chwilio am Zephaniah Williams yn Tasmania

Ar 4 Gorffennaf 1840, cyrhaeddodd Williams ynghyd â John Frost a William Jones Garchar Port Arthur, wedi'u dedfrydu i gludo oes, am arwain Gwrthryfel 1839. Roedd pymtheg mlynedd o ddeisebu a ymgyrchu gan y mudiad Siartwyr wedi arwain at dderbyn pardwn i'r tri o'r 'Merthyron Cymreig'. Gyda'i luniau ei hun, mae Steve yn datgelu'r dystiolaeth y mae wedi'i darganfod yn gogledd Tasmania, yn ymwneud â Zephaniah a'i deulu, a ymunodd ag ef yno yn ei flynyddoedd o ryddid.
