The annual Chartist Convention is a conference organised by Our Chartist Heritage at which academics present their research on Chartist-related history. This year the Convention starts with a performance featuring students from the John Frost School, and the morning session focuses on the centenary of women’s suffrage with three speakers each giving talks followed by a panel discussion which will include opportunity for audience questions. Dr. Elin Jones (OCH) will speak on pre-1900 women’s activism; Ryland Wallace (Coleg Gwent) will talk about the women’s suffrage campaign; and Dr. Rachel Locke-Lewis (USW) will discuss the aftermath of 1918.
During the afternoon Stuart Butler and the Stroud history group will give a performance on Chartist pubs in Gwent. Matthew Roberts will talk on the material and visual culture of Chartism and Brian Davies will talk on Dr William Price. The Convention closes at 4:30pm.
