Steve Howell (https://www.steve-howell.com/) Steve wil be talking a little bit earlier in the evening about his recent book 'Collateral Damage' which is inspired by his own experience. In his own words - I'll be talking about Collateral Damage - the background to the book but no spoilers. And then I'll be taking part in a panel discussion on police spying on activists, drawing on what I've discovered about the FBI's 30-year surveillance of my father - to be told in full in my next book, Feds Under The Bed, due out next year.
Tom Fowler is the host of Spycops Info podcast, was personally affected by undercover policing and now campaigns for justice. He'll be talking about his experiences, the trials and the effects that covert policing had on democratic and legitimate campaigning
Lucy Parker will be joining us via video link. Lucy is the director of 'Solidarity' (trailer and more info here http://www.solidarityfilm.com/)
A film about the secretive methods used against UK activists and trade unionists. Blacklisting in the UK construction industry impacted thousands of workers who were labelled 'troublemakers' for speaking out and secretively denied employment. Activists uncovered alarming links between workplace blacklisting and undercover policing. SOLIDARITY follows meetings between activists and law students, brought together for the film, revealing the determination of a community working together to find a route to justice. Lucy will talk about her motivations for making the film, her experiences and the experiences of those represented within.
Doors open at 6pm. Tickets are required for entry but are available on a Pay What you Want basis thanks to Our Chartist Heritage Charity number: 1176673
